Social Innovation in Russia - examples

Our engagement in Working Package 8 of the TEPSIE Project leaded us to find examples of Social Innovation in Central and Eastern Europe. In a case of Eastern Europe it was rather difficult task not only due to the fact that Social Innovation as a term is new and not investigated on a large scale in economical and sociological science, but mostly due to languages differences and even more due to differences in the used alphabet (Russia and some other EE countries are using Cyrillic alphabet). Here we would like to describe shortly some social innovation activities in Russia (for further, more detailed information on the activities please visits provided links to websites of relevant institutions)  . – It is a website where Russians can report damages/holes in the road. Maximum damage in the surface of Russian roads are defined by law. In other cases (larger damages) holes should be properly marked and removed within 37 days. In accordance to Art. 33 of the Russian Constitution, citizens have the right to appeal personally, and through direct individual and collective appeals to state bodies and local government. Authorities are committed to a written response to the validity of the appeal within 30 days from the date of registration of the application. In the case of omission of executive prosecutors have the right to initiate administrative proceedings. The similar project was also launched on Ukraine - – “give signal” is a crowdsourcing website similar to FixMyStreet, where citizens of Russia can report a problem connected with public space, for example hole in the road (it is important to give the right localization of the problem, for example street and city). The system sends a notification to the authorities of state and local government, after which service organizations should eliminate the problem – The project aims to help the victims of injustice and lawlessness perpetrated by the police and the achievement of justice. Portal aims to public this type of behaviour committed by the police by placing information on such cases at the forum. Following the activities of the forum participants is a good opportunity to assess the seriousness and scale of the problem in Russia. This portal is a type of virtual horn platform. and – are two examples of citizens activities to monitor ‘truthfulness of politicians’. The system allows to evaluate promises of politicians and public officials and the process of promises implementations. – The portal is a type of virtual horns platform (already seen during the flood in Japan and earthquake on Hawaii). This website is focused on fires on the territory of the biggest country – Russia. It relates to real and an current problem offering a good solution by contacting people who need help with volunteers. Portal has become a universal tool, which can alert and help in case of fires, but also on other topics where help is needed, or where anybody can help. Good example of helping process is, designed to help persons suffering from the cold.
